We decided to crate top 10 of the best point of interest in Podmoskovye. Of course in Moscow and neighbor regions a lot of interesting places and any similar list couldn’t pretend to be unbiassed. We have plans to update this list every year in end of April. Because there is a long holidays in Russia in the begin of May. At this time a question “How to spend week ends?” is especially important. We will be glad if our list of sights will help you spent the time with a pleasure.
Notice: in this year we don’t recommend to visit Sergiev Posad. In next year there will be anniversary of St Sergiy Radonezhskiy and in this year many objects are under reconstruction.
1. Seliger
The most far place in our list, but, perhaps, most interesting. Besides of the system of lakes you should visit the source of Volga in Volgoverkovye, and take a look on Volokolamsk, Zubtsov and Selizharovo en route.
2. Dubna
Yet another town on Voga. No, not so. It’s only one town at Volga in Moscow region. You could see to admire the Volga river, by the channel named after Moscow and by so-called Moscow sea. You should walk by institute part, look on academic’s houses, make sure that Lenin still scratches his bottom and drive to a giant arm. In the evening you may take a dinner in restaurant “Slavyanskiy tractir”.
3. Zvenigorod и Savvino-Strorozhevsky monastery.
«It is pleasant in Zvenigorod, in fact», wrote Chekhov to his future wife and we agree with him. It’s nice to walk by its streets, to find a house where a writer lived in the Malinoviy ovrag street, to rest in town’s parks. It necessary to look on Gorodok (a historical part of Zvenigorod). Only strong embankment still remain from kremlin. One of the ancientest churches also still stay in Gorodok. This church was painted by Andrey Rublev.
Savvino-Storozhevsky monastery. There you need to buy a tasteful local kvass. Walk around high walls of monastery. First by the inside side looking on Old Russian architecture, then outside looking on Switzerland of Podmoskovye.
At last you can walk down to Savvinskiy cell. This is also nice place.
4. Dmitrov
In 2005 Dmitrov was acknowledged as most well-organized town of Russia. And it seems by right. In Dmitrov the town’s historic center is especially nice. It has remains of fortress rampart and reconstructed part of a ditch. Beside Old Russian churches it worth to see monuments to urban people of various times. Also there is interesting wooden houses of various styles right up to modernist style.
5. Kimry
Kimry is a small town in Tver Region. But it have three salts. First is Volga, Uglicheskoye water storage starts here. Second is still survived wooden houses of merchants in northern modernistic style. And the main is a museum with large collection of various shoes from different epochs. Some time Kimry was a shoe capital of Russia.
6. Gzhel and Ramenskoye
Gzhel is the most famous craft of Russia. Take an guide tour by a museum and factory shops. In the brand shop you can buy a production of the factory. It’s very interesting to see by own eyes how some statuette born.
After Gzhel you may visit Ramenskoye. We advice to walk in old park close to Lake Of Borisoglebskoye, look on sculptures of characters from Soviet cartoons and psychedelic painted panel multi-floor buildings.
7. Zaraysk
In Zaraysk you must see a Kremlin. This one of the most well surviving. Zaraysk played important role in fight against Polish occupants during Trouble Time. After exploring the kremlin you can see White Well and make a picnic on bank of Osetr river.
8. Zhostovo and Fedoskino
Zhostovo is a tray making craft, and Fedoskino is about varnish boxes. This crafts has common roots. So it make sense to see it together. Pirogovskoye water storage pond is near and you can have a breakfast on its bank.
Fedoskino looks like a reserve of USSR. It seems that time is stopped here.
9. Kolomna
Kremlin in Kolomna is survived worse than in Zaraysk. But height of its wall is impress. The most advantage of Kolomna is variety of architectural styles on a small place. From Byzantine to pseudo gothic. You must buy local pastila and if you will happy visit a museum of pastila.
10. Dunino
Dunino is a estate of Soviet writer Prishvin. Here you can see how lived soviet writers of that time. And they lived aren’t bad.
There are a lot of interesting furniture and Prishvin’s objects in the house. Moskvitsh-400 stays in a garage.
